The Inter Arts Department of Idyllwild Arts Academy is pleased to announce that Friday, November 30th marks the date for the ever-popular Fall Fashion Show. Inspired by the Winter Wonderland theme that is often standard for holiday season shows, Fashion Design major and show director Inga Gilbert used it as a springboard to arrive at this year’s theme, “Nordurljosin,” or “The Northern Lights” giving nod to Gilbert’s own Icelandic heritage.

Co-directed by Fashion Design instructors Chinlee Chang and Noelle Raffy, students from beginning, intermediate and advanced classes will displaying their designs that range from pieces created from scratch while others re-created or re-purposed vintage clothing to create a new look. Students often purchase high-quality garments from the Idyllwild Help Center to use as fabric sources.

The Fashion Show has become so popular that three 30-minute seatings will be held to accommodate guests. Inter Arts department chair Nancy Popp explained, “The Fashion Design program is now in its third year, and the fashion show has proven so popular that we had to expand to three seatings to accommodate everyone.”

Seatings for the event will be at 7:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 8 p.m., although early arrival is encouraged. The show takes place in the IAM Hall on the Idyllwild Arts Academy campus and the public is invited to attend.

Instructor Chinlee Chang worked as a designer for many well-known fashion houses such as Natori, Chandler Sportswear and Anne Klein Swimwear prior to joining Idyllwild Arts Academy in 2008. Her most recent publication is the Chinese translation of “Looking Terrific; A Fashion Guide.”

Instructor Noelle Raffy is a freelance costume designer who has created costume designs on a wide range of films including “Robin Hood,” “Adventureland,” “Bridge to Nowhere,” “Shelter” and Oscar-nominated “The Road.” Her designs for the play The Birds were exhibited in the Prague Quadrennial (2007). She designed costumes for The Orestia Trilogy, which was voted “Best Play of 2007” by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Idyllwild Arts Academy is a fully-accredited, college-preparatory academics and pre-professional arts training boarding school that hosts approximately 300 students from the United States and around the world. The Idyllwild Arts Foundation, which supports the Academy was founded in 1946 by Dr. Max Krone and his wife, Beatrice, to fulfill their dream of “creating a remote place where people of all backgrounds could come together to experience the arts.”
