Ritu Kumar graces grand finale of Bangalore Fashion Week

The eighth edition of Bangalore Fashion Week Summer/Showers 2013 concluded with a spectacular show presented by the recent Padma Shri recipient Ritu Kumar.

The 69-year-old veteran featured five theme-based collections ranging from delightful amalgamations of bold forms and intricate embroideries to opulent bridal lines at the grand finale of the lavish fashion extravaganza.

She opened her show with Art Deco where a line of sleek eveningwear in silk, chiffon, crepe and twill were decorated with graphic and architecture-inspired patterns.

Her myriad ranges also included gossamer jaali enhanced western and Indian ensembles in gold, silver and copper as well as floral and paisley printed vintage baroque creations.

The ace designer’s bridal collection was heavily inspired by the historical era of royal houses accentuated with the right combination of Indian heritage textiles.

The five-day-long fashion event also witnessed an unusual Indian collection mixed with resort like creations by Rina Dhaka – one of the pioneers of Indian fashion industry. Her tribal community-influenced line featured skirts and kurtas fabricated with traditional motifs and mirror-work.

Designer duo Eddie and Simi also showcased their collection Maysa which was full of summery dresses and kaftans in sober shades infused with detailed chikankari work.

Clothing line Sheer Delight, owned by designers Lalita and Amit Gupta, presented a beautiful array of dresses, tunics, bikinis and halter tops apt for scorching summers.
