Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein wrap up NYFW grand finale

Two American fashion moguls Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein wrapped up the final day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York with their delectable pieces.

Lauren’s collection was all about evoking romanticism through early 19th century Russian sartorial sensibilities, apt for the Valentine’s Day occasion. The veteran designer’s latest Fall/Winter 2013 collection was a melange of luxurious ensembles made of fur, velvet, chiffon and silk.

Based on a rich sumptuous palette of midnight blue, forest green, burgundy and purple, the intricately detailed line featured bow-attached high-collar ruffled blouses, double-faced wool crepe stovepipe pants, wide-lapelled loose shoulder coats, taffeta evening dresses, strapless gowns, lavishly-layered skirts and a range of sophisticated luxuriantly feminine berets.

Calvin Klein’s womenswear creative director Francisco Costa projected his signature minimalism in the label’s latest military-inspired collection. Combined with sharp masculine as well as feminine tailoring, the range featured clean, straight and simple silhouettes.

With an abundant use of bold geometrics and colour blocks, the vinyl, wool, cashmere and leather made pieces were enhanced by shimmery chain embroidery and grid-like motifs. The collection included lace bustier dresses, box-pleat skirts, open back tops and a variety of padded shoulder outfits.
