After attracting nearly half a million visitors at different locations in cities like Montreal, Dallas, San Francisco and Madrid, the touring exhibition paying homage to French haute couturier Jean Paul Gaultier will now be hosted at Brooklyn Museum, New York.

Titled as “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk to the Catwalk”, the retrospective event will exhibit some of the iconic never-seen-before pieces designed by the Paris-based designer in his impressively successful fashion career spanning 37 years.

Scheduled to take place from October 25, 2013 to February 23, 2014, the Brooklyn presentation will include more than 140 couture and stage pieces, along with some new ensembles selected from the designer’s recent runway shows.

The multimedia contemporary installation is divided into various thematic sections, such as Skin Deep, Punk Cancan, Urban Jungle and Metropolis, exploring the different stages of the legendary designer’s artistic developments.

The Odyssey of Jean Paul Gaultier section amplifies the couturier’s universe replete with his trademark themes like sailors, mermaids and religious iconography.

The Boudoir segment reveals the designer’s fascination for lingerie by featuring the famous conical bras and corsets made for Madonna’s 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour.

Video footages of catwalk presentations, concerts, music videos and Gaultier's television show Eurotrash would also be showcased at the exhibition, which was first organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2011.
