The fusion of family and fashion continues in Anna Yates-Housley’s womenswear. The 23 year old from York has produced six looks including towering snoods and balaclavas that obscure the face, slick shiny leggings and a silk jacket, layering hues of grey, black and plum.

Her work has been heavily influenced by 1990s model Eve Salvail, famous for her shaved head and the dragon tattoo on her scalp.

“I really wanted to make a statement about strong women,” Anna explained. “My Nan, Catherine Yates, who has been unwell recently, has made me even more aware of how resolute and courageous every day women really are and I wanted my collection to reflect that theme.”

Kingston University’s academic director of fashion Elinor Renfrew said third year students handpicked to unveil their collections during Graduate Fashion Week were already in high demand with recruiters from major fashion brands such as Banana Republic and Massimo Dutti.

“The students’ mature approach making strong use of layering, exaggerated silhouettes and tailoring will evoke a romantic and dark atmosphere on the catwalk,” she said. “It’s enormously exciting for us to see how they are now poised to be at the very forefront of the next big developments in the fashion industry.”
