Lucille Ball's polka dot dress goes under the hammer

A tailored black and white polka dotted dress worn by America’s all-time favourite television actress Lucille Ball in the immensely popular black-and-white sitcom ‘I Love Lucy’ has fetched an unbelievable sum of US$ 168,000 at an auction event in California, Los Angeles.

Organized by the world’s largest Hollywood memorabilia auctioneer Profiles In History, the event sold authentic costumes and props from the 1950’s TV show, which ran for seven long years on Columbia Broadcasting System.

Other than Lucy’s dress, actor Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine costume from ‘X-Men’ and Tom Cruise’s ‘Charlie Babbitt’ suit from ‘Rain Man’ were also auctioned at US$ 22,000 and US$ 30,000 respectively.

Additionally, a brown homespun Austrian-style dress paired with a wheat-coloured blouse, sported by veteran British actress Dame Julie Andrews in the five Academy Awards winning movie ‘The Sound of Music’ went under the hammer for US$ 1.3 million.

Apart from the movie costumes, the event also sold an outfit for US$ 22,000 sourced from the famous American television drama ‘The Sopranos’. The costume was worn by the late American actor James Gandolfini in the final episode of the popular HBO series.
