Fashion and music intersected at Anita Dongre’s Jaipur Bride 2013 show at Lakme Fashion Week when songstress – Sona Mohapatra took to the stage to perform. While models walked the runway resplendent in the myriad colors of the “Jaipur Bride 2013”, Sona performed her special set of songs- folk, thumris and Sufiana Kalam to complement the design aesthetics of Anita Dongre.

The front row of a completely packed show included Urmila Matondkar, Radhika Apte, Juhi Chawla, Pooja Chopra, Gul Panag, Purab Kohli, Onir, Sanjay and Ambika Suri and Sangeeta Bijlani, amongst several others.

The celebrities looked ravishing in the following Anita Dongre ensembles:

- Urmila Matondkar: An ink blue 50’s inspired lace dress by AND
- Gul Panag: A black georgette saree with a delicate embroidered border
- Radhika Apte: A Global Desi printed maxi gown
- Juhi Chawla: A yellow georgette anarkali with gota pati embroidery and a net dupatta
- Sanjay Suri: Mesh linen jacket with a lime green shirt
- Ambika Suri: Black and white ombre georgette dress
- Sona Mohapatra: Blue cotton jacquard Anita Dongre dhoti inspired gown
- Sangeeta Bijlani: Black jumpsuit by AND with a silver neckpiece by Anita Dongre

This season, Anita Dongre celebrated a bold, modern and independent woman with her festive collection, Jaipur Bride 2013 in a musical collaboration with songstress, music producer and independent artiste Sona Mohapatra. Music has been the core inspiration behind Anita’s creations; an avid music lover, when she is not designing Anita is immersed in the world of music.

This Rajasthan-inspired collection portrayed the myriad moods of Anita’s bridal muse – Nayantara, who is a young, effervescent girl who challenges convention, yet loves all things traditional. Coming from a royal lineage, Nayantara epitomises modern day feminity juxtaposed with a free-spirited adventurous soul. Her style sensibilities allow her to beautifully marry the timelessness of tradition with the simplicity of contemporary design.

The collection Jaipur Bride 2013 is inspired by the JantarMantar, with the ensembles shaped by linear symmetry and embroidered in geometric shapes and patterns. The bridal lehengas, too, showcased an innovative geometric synergy echoing the architectural splendour and detailing of JantarMantar. Through this collection Anita Dongre also celebrated the classic menswear fashion – the bandi, which she reinterprets into womenswear, lending feminine grace to one of her favourite pieces.

Anshuman: Anita Dongre Menswear

Anita Dongre’s menswear collection Anshuman, is classic and elegant, following through her clean simple line from the debut menswear collection. Crafted from high quality monga silk, heavy linen, brocades, dupioni silk and kheta silk, the collection is a smart mix of kurtas, bandhgalas, dhotis, shirts, trousers and bandis.

The coming together of two passionate creative individuals was a natural fit seeing how they enjoy each other’s work, talent and point of view. The runway show was a fascinating juxtaposition of Fashion and Music; a true magical moment!
