Next summer, New Yorkers will have the privilege to enjoy an up and close view of the extravagantly glamorous evening gowns, designed by America’s first-ever couturier Charles James.

The Costume Institute at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is going to focus on the avant-garde creations of the late Anglo-American designer through its much-anticipated spring exhibit, which is scheduled to take place from May 8 to August 10, 2014.

The exhibition titled as ‘Charles James: Beyond Fashion’ will showcase a carefully chosen collection of more than 100 ball gowns, curated by the museum’s renowned fashion scholar Harold Koda.

Aiming to highlight James’s scientific and mathematical approach towards fashion, the event’s luxurious exhibits will include the legendary Four-Leaf Clover (1953), Butterfly (1955) and the Diamond (1957) evening gowns.

Died in 1978, the London-born designer was favoured by the most respected and prominent society bigwigs, such as Millicent Rogers, Austine Hearst and Dominique de Menil, from the bygone era.
