For the very first time since its inception in the 1890s, the Pennsylvania-based Drexel University’s Drexel Historic Costume Collection will be opened for public viewing.

A series of quarterly exhibits, featuring the museum-worthy collection of over 12,000 historical apparels, will be organized at the university campus under the title of ‘Fashion Fridays’.

The first full-day-long ‘Fashion Friday’ event, which is scheduled to take place on October 25, 2013, will highlight the fashion sensibilities of the Roaring Twenties.

In addition to the jazz-age garment display, the exhibit will also include a seminar entitled ‘History of 1920s Fashion’ conducted by Clare Sauro, curator of the Drexel Historic Costume Collection.

The seminar will focus on the revolutionary period when fashionable women shunned the tight fit restrictive clothing and embraced the loose fit flapper dresses.

Previously available only for teaching or research purposes, the internationally recognized Drexel Historic Costume Collection includes textiles and garments spanning more than 200 years. The most ancient pieces of the collection include a 1750s male waistcoat and 16th century velvet ensembles.
