LCF Alumnus Ross Trevail, BA (Hons) Fashion Photography 2008, opened an exhibition of his photographic work at Museum of London on 8 October.

Ross’ exhibition, Tomfoolery, celebrates men who wear jewellery through a series of black and white portraits which capture their unique stories.

The exhibition is part of the Jewellery Season at the Museum of London, and runs alongside the museum’s major exhibition, The Cheapside Hoard: London’s Lost Jewels.

Ross’ photographs have a documentary feel and capture a cross section of ages and styles.

Beatrice Behlen, Senior Curator of Fashion & Decorative Arts, spoke about Ross’ work:

“From Savile Row to Hackney Wick, London men are putting on more unconventional pieces of jewellery as attitudes to male bling are shifting. Ross has captured not only the documentary style we were after, but also brought together a group of very charismatic sitters – each with their own jewellery story.”

The London men in the display make their own rules, their tomfoolery (Cockney rhyming slang for jewellery) being chosen for aesthetic or sentimental reasons.

Ross spoke about his interest in the project: “I was very pleased to receive this brief from the Museum of London. I wear clothes and jewellery that have a history so I have always been interested in people who do the same.”
