Around 41 catwalk shows, featuring exquisite Spring/Summer 2014 styles, were staged at the just concluded week-long Chinese fashion extravaganza Shanghai Fashion Week.

With a primary focus on the home-grown designers, the soiree saw the participation of nearly 134 fashion labels, including international brands and students from local fashion institutions.

Overseas names like Oasis (from the UK), AK Club and MLB (from the US), Czech Republic’s Hana Havelková and Tautou Couture from Italy featured their collections at the event.

Hong Kong designer Badwin Cheung behind the Shanghai label Just for Tee featured a very minimalistic contemporary range titled Doll at the event. Inspired from hand and feet missing abandoned dolls, the collection included black, gray and white outfits in contrasting textures.

Clothing brand La Vie, owned by Shanghai-based designer Ji Cheng, took inspiration from the Tang Xianzu’s romantic play, written during the Ming Dynasty rule, ‘The Peony Pavilion’ for its latest catwalk offering, decorated with 3D floral embroideries and patterns of water ripples.

The 2008’s Woolmark prize winner Qiu Hao presented a feminine urban line, based in clean curve hugging silhouettes, made from silk, lambskin and handmade sheepskin braids.

Chris Chang, the Shanghai-based designer of Taiwanese origin, showcased a diversely classified fashion collection, influenced from varied sartorial resources, such as Qing Dynasty concubines, nomadic tribes, Peking Opera costumes and the style sensibilities of Chinese people from the early republican era between 1912 to 1949.

Li Xiaoming, the designer of popular women’s fashion brand Xisu, drew inspiration from a trip to Kyoto for S/S 2014 line, designed in a palette of white, gray, black, rosy brown, dark olive and pale blue. The collection was divided into four parts—Xi Xin, Kong, Wu Chuang and Sen Ling.
