Spectacular shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia

From spectacularly staged runway shows to the official launch of designer Igor Gulyaev Nicholas’s solo brand boutique, the first four days of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia have seen it all.

Designer label Mari Axel featured a mix of both formal and casual attires in its catwalk presentation, held as part of the ‘Day of industrial collections’, an event organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Designed in collaboration with the Saratov-based garment factory BestBrend’s label Chateau Fleur, Mari Axel’s range featured simple-cut business suits and floral print dresses. Adorned with interesting details like pretty perforations, flouncy silhouettes, contrast trimmings and delicate lace inserts, the ensembles were based in ivory, turquoise, pink and purple hues.

Designer Slava Zaitsev’s Pret-A-Porter De Luxe show on the fourth day displayed some exotic spring/summer pieces for both men and women. Accentuated with digital prints and graphic elements, the casual sports-inspired menswear styles included black and white linen shirts, and quilted fabric made jackets and coats. Decorated with textured jacquards, the line’s Italian silk, viscose and blended fibre made womenswear ensembles included long flowing dresses as well as elaborate tops and skirts with lace trims.

The UK-based designer Tony Ward staged an unusual show by choosing nearly 27 Miss Universe 2013 contestants as his ramp models. The fashion talent’s couture designs included strapless floor sweeping, sequined and mermaid style gowns, sexy bright red cocktail numbers and crimson hued dresses with thigh-high slits.

In addition to the runway shows featuring mainstream fashion, a special event displaying an array of plush home textiles designed by the young Muscovite designer Alena Akhmadullina was also held on the third day of the event.
