Popular African fashion brand Kluk CGDT, owned by designer duo Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit, has been awarded with the coveted ‘Designer of the Year’ accolade at the just concluded African Fashion International (AFI) Africa Fashion awards.

Held as part of the recently concluded Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa (MBFWA), the presentation ceremony also honoured Loin Cloth and Ashes with ‘Emerging Designer of the Year’ trophy.

Organized in the city of Tshwane, South Africa, the four-day-long MBFWA featured around 20 runway shows staged by over 30 designers belonging to nearly 15 countries from the African continent.

The event presented a heavy on metallic accents collection from Nelly Hagan Aboagye, the designer behind the brand Duaba Serwa. Dubbed as Sans Titre, the line, comprising of off-shoulder and sleeved gowns of varied lengths, was based on a shimmery palette of black, gold and silver, mixed with a dash of iridescent red and blue.

South African fashion designer Thula Sindi showcased his latest Spring/Summer 2013 collection titled ‘A Revolutionary Woman’ at the prestigious soiree. Rich with modified military colours doused in feminine tones, the ensembles were decorated with vibrant prints.

The fashion event was organized by the AFI, a platform for bringing in designers from the entire continent to the forefront. The platform offers direct access to the designers to domestic and international markets.
