Contestants of the ongoing Miss Universe pageant showed up in an array of atypical outfits, ranging from quirky and bizarre to classy, at the just held National Costumes Show, a preliminary runway event leading up to the big finale night on November 9, 2013.

Held in the Russian capital city of Moscow, the soiree witnessed the international participants parading in costumes inspired from multiple sources, such as indigenous tribes, cartoon characters and science fiction movies.

Miss Ecuador Constanza Baez walked in a gold and blue ensemble, inspired from the 15th century’s ruling Puruhaes and Cañari tribes, who were later defeated by the Incas. Teamed with a heavily embellished pair of wings, the outfit included a flowing robe, a shimmery bra top and matching leaf patterned skirt.

Danish contestant Cecilia Iftikhar turned up in a fitted metallic skirt and bra top combo, inspired from the all-time favourite red-haired cute cartoon sea nymph Little Mermaid.

Miss USA Erin Brady gloriously paraded in a red, white and blue catsuit, inspired from Optimus Prime, a robot from Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise.

Yumi Kim and Yukimi Matsuo, the beautiful participants from Korea and Japan, appeared in luxurious versions of actual Korean national dress as well as geisha-inspired ensemble at the fashion parade.
