Giorgio Armani to join national chamber of Italian fashion

Well-known Italian designer Giorgio Armani has decided to join the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, the national chamber of Italian fashion, pledged to revive the fading glory of Milan Fashion Week.

After his constant refusal to join the board since May, 2013, the 79-year-old design veteran is finally joining the organization with the aim to prevent the slide of shows to New York, London and Paris fashion weeks.

According to WWD, the famed Italian fashion maestro’s latest move was prompted by the initiative taken by Ennio Capasa, who chose to feature his women’s Spring collection in Milan (in September, 2013) after over 20 years of showing in Paris.

Previously, Armani had maintained his stance that he would join the association only if every Italian brand withdraws from showing in cities other than Milan.

Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana is a non-profit association which controls, co-ordinates and promotes the country’s fashion industry. Earlier this year, the organization appointed a group of new fashion council members with the task of reviving the image of Milan Fashion Week through personal involvement and financial support.

The council’s newly recruited members include some of the leading Italian fashion professionals, such as Diego Della Valle (Tod’s chief), Angela Missoni, Stefano Sassi (CEO, Valentino), Patrizio di Marco (chairman and CEO of Gucci), Renzo Rosso from OTB and designer Silvia Venturini Fendi.

Headed by Mario Boselli, the newly elected council also includes Patrizio Bertelli, from the Italian fashion house Prada, as the deputy vice-president.
