David Jones to offer designer Martin Grant line from Feb

Paris based Martin Grant is an Australian born designer recognized internationally for the couture excellence of his designs and their modern day ease. Martin launched his first ready to wear line in 1982 in his studio in Little Collins Street, Melbourne. Since then he has relocated to Paris and achieved international success.

Martin creates four collections per year and is stocked in over 50 stores globally including US department stores Barneys and Saks Fifth Avenue. He also regularly consults for prestigious luxury brands. His designs are worn by red carpet favourites such as Cate Blanchett, Juliette Binoche, Blake Lively, Tilda Swinton and Kate Hudson.

David Jones Group Executive Merchandise Donna Player said, “We are delighted that Martin Grant is joining the David Jones stable of the best national and international designers. Martin is an incredibly talented Australian designer who has achieved international recognition and we are incredibly proud to offer his collections in Australia on a department store exclusive basis. His designs cater to women who love fashion, are well travelled and have an innate sense of style.”

Martin Grant said, “I am honoured to have secured representation in my home market of Australia through David Jones. I have long admired the support that David Jones provides to Australian designers and the Australian fashion industry as well as its ability to represent international brands in the way they wish to be positioned and represented in this market. I am excited that my collections will be available locally in Australia.”

David Jones also announced that that it has notified Alex Perry that it will be exiting the brand from its business as from August 2014 when the existing supply contract expires. The decision to exit the Alex Perry brand was based on the declining sales of this brand over the past three years and the result of an ongoing productivity review by David Jones of each of the brands in its portfolio.

The deletion of this brand enables David Jones to reallocate this floorspace to new brand Martin Grant and to high performing brands such as Camilla World and Rachel Gilbert. Ms Player said, “We wish Alex Perry all the best and warmly welcome Martin Grant into David Jones designer family.”
