Titled as ‘Bound to Impress: Corsets from The Helen Larson Historic Fashion Collection’, the exhibit will highlight pieces from 1760s to the 1820s, precisely covering the eras of Ancien Régime, French Revolution, the age of Napoléon and British Romanticism.

Slated to run through June 14, 2014, the display will not only feature corsets but also such other unnatural inner garments that dictated the suffocating fashion silhouettes and trends of that period.

Loaned from the private collection of Los Angeles-based fashion historian Helen Larson, the exhibits include conically shaped concealed garments with rigid backs, flattened chest corsets and hourglass-shaped cinched waist corsets with sloping shoulders.

Other than these body stifling innerwear pieces, the Los Angeles museum is also hosting a special exhibit on accessories, such as footwear, gloves, purses and hats, sourced from Helen Larson’s exceptional private collection.

Dubbed as ‘Accessories from The Helen Larson Historic Fashion Collection’, the event features a pair of 1860s men’s floral Berlin woolwork slippers and a 1930s crimson-hued reptile skin handbag.
