Mar '14
More than 15 catwalk shows, featuring collections from over 34 young and seasoned South African brands, will be staged at the forthcoming edition of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Joburg (MBFWJ), to be held in Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa, by population.

Slated to be held from March 20 to 22, 2014, the soiree will display Autumn/Winter 2014 womenswear creations from the country’s leading names like Marianne Fassler, David Tlale, Stefania Morland, Thula Sindi and Leigh Schubert.

Also South African labels like Abigail Betz, Morphe and Avant Apparel from Johannesburg; Shana, Selfi and Tart from Cape Town; as well as Irmgard and Tsotetsi KL from Pretoria will feature their latest designs at the event.

Other than the women’s runway lines, the event will also feature menswear creations from 10 male fashion designers, including the well-known ones like Fabiani, Augustine, Ruald Rheeder, Laduma and Viyella, and the emerging talents from the African Fashion International (AFI) Next Generation incubation programme.

In addition to the style studded fashion parades, young designers’ promotional programmes like Fastrack, Next Generation and Fashion Talks will also be conducted at the Johannesburg fashion fest.

Under the theme of ‘Creative Freedom: Under the Pillars of Fashion, Art and Design’, the event will celebrate the 20th anniversary of South Africa’s democracy.

In an attempt to establish Johannesburg as a world-class fashion and shopping destination, MBFWJ will be jointly organized by African Fashion International (AFI) and Mercedes-Benz.

Started around five years ago, the African Fashion International is the premier fashion events and promotions company in Africa, which helps bringing in designers from the entire continent to the forefront.
