Paris’ Musée des Arts Décoratifs has just opened an exhibit dedicated entirely to the works of Belgian fashion designer Dries van Noten.

Scheduled to run through August 31, 2014, the autobiographical display, spread lavishly across two floors, aims to highlight the sources of inspiration that have helped in feeding the designer’s creative process throughout his career spanning more than three decades.

Titled as ‘Dries Van Noten – Inspirations’, the event displays more than 400 exhibits, including the 55-year-old’s men’s and women’s apparel lines and some relevant iconic pieces from the museum’s fashion and textile collection, which have stimulated the veteran’s design aesthetics.

Some of the major attractions of the exhibit are gilded dresses, feathered hats, Victorian era footwear and Christian Dior’s famous 1947 Bar suit as well as the designer’s spring 2014 womenswear collection, which was inspired from the museum’s varied textile resources, music legend Jimi Hendrix, classic 18th-century menswear and works of German visual artist Gerhard Richter.

Also photographs, videos, film clips, musical references, as well as artworks by renowned artists, sourced from public and private collections, which have helped in shaping the artist’s imagination from time to time have also become a part of the display, which is jointly curated by the Antwerp designer himself and the museum chief curator Pamela Golbin.
