One again the crème-de-la-crème of the Middle Eastern fashion industry came forward to showcase their eclectic new creations at the just held third season of Fashion Forward (FFWD), a fashion week like showcase held in the progressive Emirati city of Dubai.

Designers from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates showcased their latest avant-garde fashion lines at the four-day-long soiree, which primarily aims to establish Dubai as an international fashion hub.

The Amsterdam Rietveld Academy graduate Said Mahrouf opted to feature a very sombre shaded collection based in tones of grey and black. Replete with clean cuts and smart pleats, the Moroccan talent’s range included trousers with triangular side panels on waist and overall metallic pieces.

Starch, an organization engaged in promoting emerging Lebanese designers, introduced the young Beirut-based design talent Jo Baaklini at the event. The former illustrator and London’s Central Saint Martins’ alumnus showcased a very fresh collection, adorned with juicy fruit prints, such as watermelon shirts and lemon crop tops.

Jean Louis Sabaji, another debutante at the Dubai event, displayed an exquisite line comprised of nearly 41 innovative looks which included simple white jumpsuits, bell-bottoms and a costume like yellow dress.

Designer Lamia Asudari drew inspiration from the 16th century blue and white Delft pottery of Netherlands and weaponry images for her sharp masculine tailoring infused designs based in feminine silhouettes. Adorned with blue geometric hexagonal patterns, the upscale sportswear range included maxi skirts, collared biker dresses and bomber jackets.

The US-born Lebanese couturier Rami Kadi chose to showcase a fairy tale princess like ensembles on the catwalk. Replete with conventional silhouettes, the featured pieces were a Hawaiian hula skirt like ruffled baby-blue ball gown, a white sequined dress and a ruffled panelled multi-coloured skirt.
