Rich Peruvian history inspires designer Meche Correa

Internationally recognized Peruvian designer Meche Correa has once again drew inspiration from her country’s rich history to create her latest winter 2014 collection.

Showcased at the just held edition of Peru Moda 2014, the designer took inspiration from the unsung heroes of the Campaign of the Breña, who fought alongside the country’s 19th century president and national hero Andrés Avelino Cáceres, for the new range.

Infused with a generous dose of Andean design sensibilities, the catwalk collection featured flower embroidered dresses and voile skirts as well as fabric scraps sewn Los Avelinos costumes, comprised of a basic short skirt and a baggy sweater.

Known for incorporating tradition celebrating Peruvian folk art themes into her modern and fresh designs, Meche Correa is a well-known name in Colombia, Italy, France and Spain.

Attended by buyers and industry professionals from nearly 53 countries, Peru Moda 2014 was organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for export and tourism (PROMPERU) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association of Exporters (ADEX), the Lima Chamber of Commerce, the National Society of Industries, Trade Society of Peru and the Peruvian Institute of Crafts.

Fought as part of the War of the Pacific, the Campaign of the Breña was a three-year-long Peruvian battle, under the command of General Andrés Avelino Cáceres, against the Chilean army’s terrestrial invasion in the 19th century.
