The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, the international touring exhibit celebrating the works of fashion industry’s enfant terrible and famous French couturier Jean Paul Gaultier has made a stop at London’s Barbican Centre.

Scheduled to run till August 25, 2014, the theatrically-staged exhibition features more than 165 cutting-edge ready-to-wear and haute couture garments, as well as film and stage performance costumes dating back to 1970s to the present day.

Some of the major attractions of the display, dedicated to the 62-year-old, include bondage dresses, male skirts and some pop and punk culture inspired revolutionary pieces.

The featured exhibits also include costumes worn by Kylie Minogue on her most talked about stage appearances, dresses from the films of Pedro Almodóvar and the infamous conical bra, donned by Madonna during her 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour.

In addition to the extravagant clothing showcase, the display also features some of the iconic rarely-seen-before items like the Paris-based veteran’s childhood toy teddy bear Nana, who is wearing a newspaper made cone bra and a faded frayed tan coat.

Additionally, footages and pictures of catwalk presentations, concerts, music videos, films and dance performances, shot by world’s renowned artists and photographers like Miles Aldridge, David LaChapelle, Pierre et Gilles, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Stéphane Sednaoui, Cindy Sherman and Andy Warhol have also formed a part of the vast exhibition.

Started in 2011, the event was first organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier. It has been earlier hosted in cities like New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Stockholm and Madrid.
