The seventh edition of Fiji Fashion Week, which begins today and is slated to be held till May 31, 2014, will showcase innovative fashion lines from around 45 senior, 30 student and 10 childrenswear designers.

Anton Conwye and Alex Ligairi, the 24-year-old and 21-year-old designer duo, will showcase their nature-inspired 15-piece 2014 line EPOP in the established designers’ segment. The E in the title of the range stands for Elements of Nature and the POP stands for the on trend pastel, florescent and soft colours of lollipops.

Aisea Konrote, another name from the established fashion label category, will showcase his 16 piece-collection called ‘Interrupting Black and White’, replete with a dash of eye-catching hues other than the predominance of blacks and whites. While speaking about the show stopping ensemble of the range, the designer says, “My last piece is a red wedding dress taking the concept of the old designers in the 1930’s or 40’s.”

In addition to the ready-to-wear showcases, a special evening, due to be held on May 29, 2014, solely dedicated to the country’s rapidly growing resortwear industry, has been also included in the May calendar of the soiree.

Designer Hupfeld Hoerder will feature a print heavy multi-functional resort line, “What my collection emphasizes is basic resort wear where you’re bold enough to wear something out to resorts, not just to resorts but the beach, it’s flora and fauna. Block prints are what I’m doing in this collection for the first time. That’s what’s very new. It’s not something out of the ordinary, but what will set it apart are the prints itself. But the designs are very simple.”

HH Creation, the French Polynesia-based resortwear brand owned by the Tahiti-born and Mo’orea-raised designer Hani Haring and France-born Benjamin Schetrit, will showcase a comfortable, lightweight, vintage fabric crafted collection, replete with Calais lace and Parisian style embroidery.
