DHL, the world’s leading shipping and logistics provider, and IMG Fashion have announced four winners of this year’s inaugural DHL Exported season. Nicholas and Christopher Kunz, the fashion-forward design team behind New York City-based Nicholas K, have won the opportunity to further their international growth plans by showing their collections at Milan Fashion Week in September 2014 and February 2015.

“We are very excited to announce Nicholas K as the winner in the United States for the first DHL Exported Program. It was a tough decision to make from among some of the most talented designers out there, but we ultimately found a design duo who exemplifies exceptional drive and passion to expanding internationally,” said Bill Heaney, Vice President, Head Retail Sector, Americas for DHL. “We are committed to helping them break down international barriers with our knowledge, experience of the fashion industry and our worldwide network.”

To celebrate their win and offer a sneak preview of their design plans and inspiration for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week show in September, DHL and IMG Fashion hosted a cocktail reception on July 1 at 6 p.m. at The London.

The DHL Exported program was open for applications from designers around the world last spring. DHL and IMG Fashion received 150 applications from designers in 36 countries, each looking to move beyond their home market and present their collection to a worldwide audience. Designers were asked to choose the market – New York, Milan, London or Tokyo – where they could foresee growth to help meet their business objectives. For each show location, a committee of regional experts reviewed the applications and chose the designer that they believed showed the most promise to benefit and succeed with the DHL Exported program.

For the winning designers, DHL Exported is sponsoring a fully produced runway show for two consecutive seasons, along with covering the logistic costs of producing the collection and shipping the finished garments to the runway in either New York, Milan, London or Tokyo.

“DHL is the only one company that can provide everything in terms of logistics. You can have fabrics from Italy, buttons and zippers from China, woolens from Peru and then you design in New York. All of those intersection points, that’s where DHL is the glue that connects all the pieces,” said Nicholas and Christopher Kunz of Nicholas K.

The DHL Exported shows will take place in September 2014/February 2015 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, London Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week, as well as in October 2014/March 2015 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo.
