The Forbidden City: Inside the Court of China’s Emperors ROM, The critically acclaimed The Forbidden City: Inside the Court of China’s Emperors, presented by the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation with Manulife as Lead Sponsor, closes at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) on Monday, September 1, 2014.

Presented in collaboration with Beijing’s Palace Museum, the exhibition has brought to Canada for the first time nearly 250 treasures. These objects, part of Chinese imperial life for five centuries in a city strictly off-limits to all but the emperor, his family, and his personal servants, tell the riveting story of a momentous chapter in China’s long and fascinating history.

The Forbidden City, on display at the ROM since March 2014, saw an extensive rotation of approximately 50 light-sensitive and fragile textiles, paintings, and paper objects in early June 2014. This rotation has created a brand new opportunity for visitors to experience the exhibition, its stories, and exquisite objects.

The Forbidden City’s youngest visitors can enjoy family trails and treasure hunts, as well as, and touchable reproductions of some of the exhibition’s most fascinating objects. The ROM is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, and 10:00 am to 8:30 pm on Fridays. Last entry to The Forbidden City is one and a half hours earlier than general Museum closing hours. Guided tours are offered daily at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm, with French tours available for the same price every Friday at 2:00pm.
