More than 20 national and international eco-friendly fashion creators showcased their latest arrays of organic, ethical, upcycled and recycled lines of clothing at the just held edition of New Zealand Eco Fashion Exposed.

Dunedin designer Melanie Child showed a 10-piece collection from her eponymous upcycled clothing label. Dubbed as Inertia, the range was a blend of both streetwear and couture styles, which included men’s shirts, T-shirts and denim pieces.

Australia’s first internationally recognised organically certified fashion label Green Embassy, owned by the Perth-based designer and artist Zuhal Kuvan-Mills, took inspiration from the Western Australian shrubs and bushes for its Connected to Land Series collection. Made using organic merino and cotton threads, the 20-piece range included stylish day wear and striking evening dresses.

Stansborough Ltd, the New Zealand-based costumer behind blockbuster movies like ‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ and ‘The Hobbit’, debuted its first-ever runway collection at the annual soiree. The show highlighted ensembles crafted from the company’s signature Wairarapa farm produced pure natural, hand finished and steam pressed fibres derived from a historic breed of sheep.

In addition to runway parades, the five-day-long Wellington event also hosted a style workshop conducted by the Stylist Nora Swann of Kila’s, who presented co-ordinated stylish looks using thrift store bought garments.

Also, Denise Anglesey featured around 20 looks using vintage dresses and reused fabrics from her own upcycling range Denise H under the #ecovintagechallenge segment.

Apart from the shows by above mentioned designer labels and stylists, the New Zealand Eco Fashion Exposed also organized pop-up shops featuring a selection of clothes and accessories from the designer participants.
