Young and seasoned Kiwi talents shine at New Zealand FW

The just concluded New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) highlighted an array of latest Autumn/Winter 2015 creations from a talented mix of young and established Kiwi designers.

Syza, the Auckland based designer behind Itzme label, showed a blend of androgyny and sportswear elements in her softly tailored pieces in fuchsia, purple and orange shades while Nomsa Mabuto, the up and coming brand owned by the young designer of African dissent Nomsa Botshiwe, highlighted a wardrobe separate heavy range replete with coats, pants and shell tops in myriad tones of green.

Designer Trish Peng featured a variety of sporty ready-to-wear casual pieces and flowing evening numbers. The standout creations from the collection were laser-cut bomber jackets, circle skirts, anoraks, ruffled off-the-shoulder tops and party gowns in bright pop colours.

The NZFW regular Hailwood presented a balanced amalgamation of streetwear and rock chic looks. The line’s major attractions were sequinned jackets, dévoré silk dresses, figure flattering velvet gowns, ponchos with unicorn motifs and smart denim pieces.

The home-grown fashion talent Kate Sylvester went all geeky in her refined luxurious romantic runway collection. Blending vintage vibes with subtle menswear references and English countryside looks, the featured ensembles were enhanced with regatta stripes and polka dots. The show’s womenswear presentation included fringe scarves, and sheer dresses and blouses. The menswear entries were camel trench coats, open shirts and striped trousers.
