The Indian fashion and casual lifestyle products selling e-commerce site Myntra has roped in the 2014’s International Woolmark Prize winning Indian designer Rahul Mishra to design for its in-house label Dressberry.

Known for his extensive usage of Indian handlooms in clothing designs, the designer will create two collections, both Spring/Summer 2015 and Autumn/Winter 2015, for the women’s westernwear brand.

In addition to signing on the designer for the collaborative project, the online purveyor will also support Mishra’s upcoming international foray at the Paris Fashion Week (PFW) runway where the latter will debut his S/S 15 range on October 1, 2014.

While commenting on the association, the co-founder of Myntra, Ashutosh Lawania, says, “We are really thrilled and take immense pride to be the first ever brand in the e-tail industry that will empower an Indian designer to create a mark in the international fashion scene. This partnership fits in well with our overall strategy to elevate Myntra.com and our in-house fashion brands.”

The designer also expressed his excitement over the new collaboration in a statement, “What would have been a small step by me is becoming a giant leap with Myntra's support.”

“It’s an absolute blessing to being bestowed with the invitation to showcase at Paris Fashion Week, a dream for every designer. It’s a greater honour and opportunity to take forward the signature of our young brand on to a world platform, and showcase the immense opportunity India’s rich craft and textiles offer. It’s a new direction for our brand and we are all excited to push forward ‘Idea India’,” adds Rahul.

Apart from the two S/S and A/W westernwear ranges, the designer will also create two ethnic wear diffusion collections, inspired from his visit to the French fashion fest, for the portal’s ‘Designer Corner’. These collections will be exclusively available at Myntra.

Alumnus of two prestigious design institutions, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India and Milan’s Istituto Marangoni, Rahul had set up his eponymous brand, which is synonymous with handlooms and fine handwork, in 2008. The design talent is one of the 16 winners of the covetable Woolmark Prize since its inception in 1953.

Founded in 2007, headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, Myntra offers products from over 700 leading brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Levis, Arrow, CAT, Timberland, FabIndia and Biba. The platform receives over 50 million visits every month and services over 9,000 pin codes across the country. (PB)
