Sailor Jerry Clothing signs Iggy Pop for Flash Collection

American label Sailor Jerry Clothing has signed on the Michigan-born singer-songwriter Iggy Pop to create a collection for its annual collaborative design venture Flash Collection.
The 67-year-old is the second rock ‘n’ roll legend to design a line for the brand’s yearly fashion initiative Flash Collection which invites likeminded creative people to design pieces that reflect the brand’s signature ethos.
Slated to be available for purchase in a handful of selected stores around the world and on sailorjerry.com from October, 2014 onwards, the collection will offer three exclusive limited-edition items including the musician’s interpretation of the iconic sleeveless denim vest.
The label’s website mentions, “Sailor Jerry Clothing is proud to announce our 2014 Flash Collection, designed in collaboration with one of our favorite artists of all time, Iggy freaking Pop.”
“Flash Collection is when we collaborate with a likeminded creative spirit on a limited collection of clothing. Iggy will design 3 items for Sailor Jerry clothing. The collection will launch at the end of October,”the website added.
In 2013, the label had teamed up with the iconic artist and bassist from the popular English punk rock band The Clash, Paul Simonon, on a three-piece line, which was comprised of a leather jacket, a T-shirt and a neckerchief, for the annual collection series.
Sailor Jerry Clothing is part of the namesake spiced rum brand inspired by the father of the old-school tattoo- Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins.
Iggy has experimented with and mastered on several genres of music, including pop, hard rock, jazz and blues.
Simonon is not only known for his contribution to music and style over the past three decades as the iconic bassist of ‘The Clash’, ‘Gorillaz’ and ‘The Good The Bad The Queen’, he is also a highly collected visual artist whose work exhibits internationally. (PB)
