After biding adieu to London, the Spring/Summer 2015 fest has now entered the fashionable city of Milan which opened the week-long Milan Fashion Week with a show from the industry stalwart Gucci who changed the elegant and sophisticated woman from last winter to an individualist, eccentric spirit of summers.

Frida Giannini, the current Creative Director of the Italian fashion house, displayed an early 1970s vibe mixed with nautical hints through her rock-chic inspired collection replete with crisp clean sharp lines, juxtaposed with prints, embroidery and fur.

Based on a palette of pearl white, orange, bordeaux, blue, green and monochromes, the denim, suede and leather heavy range’s main highlights were a micro beaded denim dress featuring a plunging neckline with a maxi lace-up closure, wide-leg low-waisted pants with calf-length cuffs and golden marine buttons, a python skin jacket and skirt combo, a boxy masculine trench, a Mongolian lamb vest, a top with broderie anglaise insets, a blue jumpsuit with ton-sur-ton or contrast stitching, a gold bullion embroidered jacket and cocktail dresses enhanced with subtle prints and couture-style fine embroideries.

Italian fashion designer and dressmaker Alberta Ferretti gave a sporty casual touch to her trademark gentle romance-inspired red-carpet looks. The line’s standouts were a feather appliquéd white mousseline gown with fringed hems, a finely pleated nude chiffon dress, a floor sweeping strapless number adorned with flower vines, a low waist skirt accented with laser-cut denim and raw silk flowers, a fringed lilac suede shift as well as some jumpsuits and roomy trousers.

Fausto Puglisi, the Sicilian-born and Versace and Dolce and Gabbana trained designer, brought back the classy ancient Rome on the Milanese runway. Replete with checks, mosaic prints, geometric patterns and iridescent fabrics, the heavy on graphics line highlighted skirts with stiff hems, frilly orange dresses and tailored belted minis in lime green shades.
