Barbara Hulanicki, the Polish Warsaw-born fashion designer, has returned to Biba, the iconic London-based fashion label which she herself founded some 50 years ago.

The talented design veteran, who parted ways with the firm about 40 years back, has recently sealed a consultancy deal with the brand’s current owner House of Fraser.

According to Telegraph.co.uk, the 78-year-old is set to design a capsule collection, which will be released sometime in next autumn season, for the brand.

Biba was originally founded in 1964. Despite its huge sales, the company ran into financial difficulties and was declared defunct in 1975 after Hulanicki’s departure. However, several attempts to revive the company were made in between before it was finally taken over by House of Fraser in 2009.

Established in 1849 in Glasgow, Scotland, House of Fraser is a British department store group which owns around 60 stores across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Presently a resident of Miami, Florida, Hulanicki is also known for her interior design businesses and her list of clients include names like the hotel business tycoon Chris Blackwell. She also has designed fashion ranges for British high-street retailer Topshop. (PB)
