The adult fans of the popular British children’s comic The Beano will soon have a reason to rejoice as the weekly’s publisher, D. C. Thomson & Company, Limited, is set to launch a men’s apparel line inspired by the archived images of the fun-filled publication.

DC Thomson Consumer Products has joined hands with the British design firm N16 Vintage to design, develop and manufacture a new contemporary menswear collection named Reclaimed Vintage.

DC Thomson Head of Brands, Tim Collins, said in a statement, “We’re always exploring new ways of working with The Beano’s iconic artwork and the collaboration with N16 Vintage is a fantastic complement to our growing adult apparel range, showing what can be done with the archive but interpreted with a modern twist.”

“They join a growing list of partners including Poetic Gem, Fabric Flavours, TruffleShuffle, Blues Clothing and Licensing Awards 2014 winner, Dr Martens for its innovative branded shoe line,” he further reveals.

N16 Managing Director Josephine Beckett also spoke on the new collaboration, “We are thrilled to be able to unite our signature fashion look with a classic vintage icon, and confident that the collection will be a major hit this season."

Incorporated with the trends of punk heritage, 1980’s rebellion, boyish nostalgia and the comic’s signature rebellious and menacing spirit, the fashion forward 16-piece range is replete with original reclaimed garments featuring iconic imagery and vintage inspired pieces with details drawn from The Beano archives.

Slated to be available for purchase exclusively on ASOS sometime this month, the Autumn/Winter line includes a denim shirt with embroidery detailed pocket, a long-line signature black and red checked shirt, a bomber jacket with all-over comic strip print and an array of t-shirts.

First published in July 1938, The Beano is best known for its famed characters such as Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, The Bash Street Kids and Minnie the Minx.

N16 specialises in working with vintage garments.

Started in 2000, ASOS is a British online fashion and beauty store that sells over 850 brands as well as its own range of clothing and accessories. (PB)
