J Crew collaborates with 4-year-old design prodigy Mayhem

The American multi-brand, multi-channel, specialty retailer J Crew has entered into a novel collaborative fashion design venture in partnership with a tiny, four-year-old design prodigy named Mayhem.
The little fashion-savvy wonder kid, who is known for her Instagram fashion blog Fashion By Mayhem, has helped create a capsule childrenswear collection for the Spring 2015 season under the company’s Crewcuts line.
Co-designed by the label’s design team led by Crewcuts’ head of design, Jenny Cooper, the pieces were initially crafted with paper, tape, beads, glue and crayons before sewing them with real fabrics.
The collection will feature an array of clothing and accessories like printed rompers, white frocks with gold and orange horizontal stripes, pleated skirts, stone encrusted tops and scarves.
Mayhem, who runs the blog with the help of her mother Angie Keiser, first grabbed the spotlight when she began recreating designer looks worn by the celebrities at high-profile events like Oscars and Met Ball earlier this year.
Followed by about 423,000 followers on Instagram, the diminutive designer had imitated Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence’s gowns from the 2014 Golden Globes as well as Katy Perry’s Valentino dress worn at the Grammy Awards function.
Founded in 1983, headquartered in New York City, J Crew specializes in an array of women’s, men’s and children’s apparel and accessories, including swimwear, outerwear, loungewear and wedding fashions. (PB)
