Under Armour signs 4-year partnership with Andy Murray

The American sportswear brand Under Armour has added one more international athlete to its roster of world-class sports champions.
The clothier has sealed a four-year partnership deal with the Scottish tennis player Andy Murray, who will start making appearances for the brand from January, 2015.
According to the agreement, the 27-year-old sportsman will not only be featured in the label’s marketing campaigns but will also wear its apparels and accessories to various occasions and will participate in global training and tennis activations.
Speaking about the collaboration, the brand’s senior category director, Global Golf and Tennis, Ryan Kuehl, said, “Signing Andy is really a special moment for the brand, as we continue to elevate and diversify our athlete roster and expand our international presence. Andy’s remarkable character, competitive spirit and unmatched ability make him the perfect fit for our family.”
The tennis star also expressed his excitement over the new association, “I am very honored and excited to be joining Team Under Armour and to help them tell their story globally. They are committed to providing innovative apparel, accessories, and footwear, with an unmatched focus on training and performance.”
Murray’s manager, Matt Gentry, also added, “Andy is very committed and focused when it comes to training and preparation, so the new partnership with Under Armour is an exciting and ideal match. Athlete performance and product innovation are the brand’s core pillars, which will have strong benefits for Andy and the team in 2015 and beyond.”
Before signing the Glasgow-born world champion, Under Armour had collaborated with several ace athletes including Lindsey Vonn, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Stephen Curry, Jordan Spieth and fellow tennis player Sloane Stephens in the past.
Founded in 2006, headquartered in Maryland, Under Armour specialises in sports and casualwear clothing and accessories. The label’s European headquarters is located in Amsterdam. It also maintains additional offices in Denver, Hong Kong, Guangzhou (China), Jakarta and Toronto.
Currently ranked number six in the world, Murray became the first British male in 77 years to win the coveted Wimbledon Championships in July, 2013. He is also the 2012 US Open Champion and reigning Olympic Singles Champion. (PB)
