Couturiers will gather in New York City next month for the upcoming 21st season of Couture Fashion Week (CFW), set to take place from February 13 to 15, 2015 at Broadway Ballroom of Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan.

The event will present a full array of young and seasoned designers from countries including Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru, Morocco, Georgia, Canada and US.

Indonesia’s Asri Welas will display a line of the traditional blouse-dress ensemble, Kebaya, from her namesake fashion brand. Inspired by the cultural and ethnic diversity of her country and the rich natural beauty of its islands, the casual everydaywear designs will include a palette of natural plant and animal colours, as well as a harmonious blend of unique fabrics and accessories inspired by the nation’s culture.

Designer Lainy Gold will present her latest womenwear creations based on a palette inspired by ‘Glacé-Ice’, the shimmer of ice when hit by the sun. Replete with shades of silvers, golds, pinks and iridescent blues, the romantic ensembles will incorporate elements of Hollywood glamour.

Moroccan design star and kaftans specialist Meriem Belkhayat will showcase her handmade creations at the event. Known for using finest fabrics and crystals, her designs embody Moroccan authenticity and elegance with a modern flair.

Designer Alvertis Alve’ Alexander, who also essays the role of an actress, model and playwright in real life, will highlight her haute couture creativity at the event. The Texas native’s distinctive designs are a mix of a little bit country and city styles inspired from her own vivid imagination and the world.

The New York-based designer of Dominican Republic lineage Elcy Cortorreal will feature her classic-meets-modernity women’s pieces at the soiree. The fashion creator has perfected her design skills from Laie Fashion Design School (Hawaii) and Altos de Chavon design academy in her native country.

Dallas-based designer Baqash Wilson will make his CFW debut with a new menswear collection. Recognised with several national design accolades including the first New Day Designer of the Year, Canadian Club Designers Showcase and Golden Designer Award, the couturier has showed his creations at fashion events in Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia and the US.

In addition to the runway shows, the Russian-born American artist Tatiana Tret will exhibit a selection of her inspired works at the NYC event. Known for her expertise on a multitude of media, painting, photography, sculpture and digital media, the artist’s work incorporates some of the most important historical aspects of classic and modern art, namely sculpture, photography and abstract expressionism.

Founded in 2005, the bi-annual CFW hosts a series of couture and luxury fashion shows along with world-class entertainment, a red carpet and upscale displays of art and consumer products and services, as well as after-parties. (PB)
