‘Elmo’ and ‘Cookie Monster’, the furry red and navy googly-eyed muppets from children’s favourite television show Sesame Street, have inspired a brand new apparel and accessories collection from the German sportswear specialist Puma.

According to a newly inked licensing agreement with the non-profit educational organisation Sesame Workshop, the athleticwear label is set to create four co-branded collections, celebrating the relationship between entertainment and sports, in the course of next two years.

Speaking on the collaboration, Risa Greenbaum, assistant vice president, International Licensing, Sesame Workshop, said in a press statement, “We are thrilled to work with Puma and offer families more ways to incorporate their favourite Sesame Street characters into their active lives. Our mission is to help kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder, and our content encourages healthy habits.”

Echoing the same sentiments, the Business Unit Fundamentals and Puma Kids general manager, Reinhard Dischner states, “Sesame Street has been popular for several generations and kids in over 150 countries around the globe love its characters as much as they love Puma products. Sesame Street helps kids learn, grow and reach their full potential, always in a playful manner. And in Puma Kids products you can always play. I call it the perfect match.”

Joachim Knödler, managing director CPLG Germany, which has the licensing rights of Sesame Street for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, added, “We are proud that we have been able to connect a high value sports and lifestyle brand such as Puma with the worldwide well-known property Sesame Street."

Launching sometime in January, 2016, the Spring/Summer 2016 line, which will feature an array of footwear, shirts and bags for all age groups starting with toddlers, will be available through a vast retail distribution network that will include Puma stores and ecommerce sites, department chains, sportswear retailers and specialist footwear outlets and independents.
