Milan toasts Giorgio Armani on his 40th year in fashion

One of Italy’s most famous designers Giorgio Armani celebrated 40 years in fashion last night with a star-studded gala in Milan – the country’s fashion capital and the headquarters of his empire, according to media reports. He also opened his very own museum dedicate to his designer business in the city.
The evening began with a tour of the new Armani/Silos, a museum and exhibition space encompassing 4,500 square meters and four floors dedicated to Armani's career. Then followed a big Armani Privé couture fashion show, attended by Hollywood stars such as Cate Blanchett, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and dozens more, all dressed in their Armani finest.
Nicknamed King Giorgio, the designer is known for being hands-on in creating one of the most recognized fashion brands in the world.
"There have been many moments, from the beginning until today," Armani told reporters upon arrival at the gala on Thursday evening. "Maybe my most emotional moment was when I saw my cover on 'Time'," he added referring to the magazine.
Armani, who designs both couture and ready-to-wear, has dressed celebrities, royals as well as sportsmen. Stars such as Beyonce, David Beckham and Megan Fox have modeled his perfumes or underwear.
“James Bond" actor Pierce Brosnan paid tribute to the stylist, calling him "a mighty man" while legendary Italian actress Sophia Loren simply said the designer "is my friend". (SH)
