Lingerie brand Wacoal now in India

Wacoal, a global leader in the luxury lingerie market is all set to increase its global footprint with its entry into the Indian market. Wacoal India Private Limited is a joint venture between Wacoal International Hong Kong Co. Ltd. and Periwinkle Fashions Private Limited, a major fashion business company, home to popular brands which include the likes of Samsonite, Lavie and Accessorize, Wacoal said in a statement.
Initially, the brand is all geared to open exclusive stores in key metros like Mumbai and Delhi in July, 2015. The brand shall also be made available on popular E-Commerce routes and department stores very soon.
Tsuneo Matsui, CEO of Wacoal International Hong Kong Co. Ltd. said, “We decided to foray into the Indian market as it is representative of exponential market growth and is an economy which is conducive to industry with its basic policies such as foreign investment promotion, social infrastructure development and expansion of industries.”
Commenting on the joint venture with Wacoal International Hong Kong Co. Ltd., Sandeep Goenka, Chief Executive Officer of Periwinkle Fashions Private Limited said, “We are extremely excited about our joint venture with Wacoal International Hong Kong Co. Ltd. which has provided us with a good opportunity to enter into a new product category. We aim to increase awareness of the brand ‘Wacoal’ by utilizing Periwinkle’s robust sales network, marketing expertise and fusing Wacoal’s know-how of lingerie business.”
Established in 1949 with a global presence in over 66 countries and regions, including North America, Europe, and Asia, the Wacoal brand aims to consolidate its international presence for the Wacoal Group. Wacoal has a strong presence in leading US markets and Asian markets like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and China. The renowned brand has established a significant presence in the European market as well. In India Wacoal’s major competitors will be LaSenza, Marks and Spencer and Triumph.
