Ghana Fashion Week announces 2015 event date

The Ghana Fashion & Design Week (GFDW) will be held from October 23 to October 25 in the capital Accra.

The pioneering international fashion and design business event will be packed with exciting business activities themed “Fashion Restated”, GFDW said in a statement.

The event will have a trade exhibition showcase curated under the name “Contemporary Africa” running alongside designers catwalk presentations, and fashion business and knowledge transfer seminars with a line-up of industry experts,

The Ethikha platform which highlights ethical fashion and sustainability development, will be dedicated to designers and social enterprises committed to driving social impact through fashion and design innovation, to improve the lives of society’s underprivileged.

The event will turn the world’s focus on Accra, as an emerging and growing fashion capital. The objective this year is to “restate” fashion as a business in Ghana, and bring to the fore the importance of creativity and design innovation as an essential element for Ghana’s creative industry development, the statement said.

GFDW will have a segment called New Talent Spot to focused on developing new graduates in fashion and design and will honour three new best fashion design graduates of 2015 from Radford University College.

Head of fashion department of RUC, Yvonne Ntiamoah, said “ We are encouraged to be in partnership with GFDW business platform, creating the essential link for best new graduates to continue their creative journey into becoming entrepreneurs. We are excited, and can not wait to see the previous 2014 selected RUC Graduate – Afua Biney’s premier collection at the fashion week this October!.”

German auto major Mercedes-Benz is the sponsor of the vent. GFDW will have a segment called Style & Steel as part of the event activities for Mercedes-Benz owners in Ghana. While men will have the opportunity to be rewarded by GFDW for a special well-being treatment exclusively at the luxury XMen Grooming Bar through the Fashion Hospitality Lounge at GFDW, Mercedes-Benz ‘ladies of style’ will enjoy a special fashion treat by studio1981, Ghanaian designer at the fashion week.

Models will have the unique opportunity to be styled by two time British Hairdressing Awards winner, Afro hair celebrity stylist Charlotte Mensah , and artistic hair director to GFDW, known for her ingenious Avant-garde hair creations. (SH)
