Fashion Buildings have started their sales/bargains on July 1st. This date is the same as the previous year, and with department stores entering their sales campaigns around the same time, July will be a price down month for the whole market.

Fashion buildings that have great popularity have customers lined up outside the doors on the first day of bargains, and some are even considering opening up earlier than usual for sales. Buildings are coming up with novelty gifts for those who line up for the opening and coming up with other ways to increase visitors.

But sales period for department stores will be shorter this year. They hope to use much shelf space for autumn products, and with growing private consumptions, they predict that the cheap prices will be less enticing.

Daimaru’s sales will only last 11 days where their sales were for 15 days the previous year. Takashimaya will start placing autumn collections from July 12th; they are usually placed around august. Marui’s sales that had always started at 50 percent will start from 30 percent this year.

This somewhat new strategy did not disappoint the consumers as many retailers are seeing high-priced items selling at a steady pace, and first day sales were positive. Lumine Shinjuku’s sales gained the highest sales ever.

With the sales opening date being Saturday and the weather relatively nice, number of customers were high and many lined up for the opening. In total of all their buildings they had first day sales of 2.4BJYen, an increase of 41 percent. Select shops had leaded the sales mainly in most stores. Their main store in Shinjuku Tokyo had sales of 522MJYen, an increase of 46 percent.
