An executive from Cebu Fashion Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters (Cebu-FAME) informed that domestic costume jewellery industry has undergone enormous development in 2005, inspite of competition from inexpensive Chinese fashion products.

President Marose Sobreno stated that the company's net export in 2005 reached 46.76 percent. It was $63.4 million as against $43.2 million in 2004.

Reports from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-7 information center showed that fashion accessories sector was responsible for 1.36 percent of net exports in Central Visayas, in first half of 2005. Cebu-FAME holds 85 percent of costume jewellery exports in Philippines.

Sobreno informed that market for domestic spring-summer line of costume jewellery attracts attention, with US in prime focus, during first three months every year.

US has always been the country's major costume jewellery importer, with net exports of $6.97 million in first four months of 2005, which is 9.44 percent more than $6.37 million in the same period in 2004.

Sobreno added that as participation of global importers in domestic trade was decreasing, Government must try to attract these importers to local shows and exhibitions, in addition to promoting trade.
