Online retailer eBags.com announced the company concluded the holiday quarter with a significant increase in handbag sales, up 43% in the past year-over-year. More high-end, designer brand names helped eBags increase its average order size 13% during the holiday quarter (versus 2006).

eBags.com -- the world's largest online retailer of handbags, luggage, backpacks and travel accessories -- attributes rapid handbag growth to the company's focus on adding trendy, popular designer brands to the mix, from names like Rafe, Francesco Biasia and Just Cavalli. eBags' online store in Europe -- eBags UK -- also experienced fast-paced handbag growth in the past year.

"Handbags are just like shoes and jewelry -- a woman can never have too many. Because over 70% of our shoppers are women, we're always striving to showcase our endless handbag options," said Nancy Behrendt, senior director of merchandising at eBags.com.

"For many women, finding that perfect handbag or discovering a new brand is a euphoric experience. We want every woman to get that same feeling of exhilaration when she shops at eBags."

The company continues to maintain its position as the ultimate handbag destination by offering consumers over 10,000 purses on eBags.com and recently launching its new web site, www.handbags.com.

"We're really excited about Handbags.com, which we developed to highlight the fashion industry's latest trends and provide updates on popular brands like Fossil, kate spade and Coach," said Laila Mahmud, public relations coordinator at eBags.com.

"Handbags.com is where aficionados and fashionistas can find valuable fashion tips, online shopping advice, and the latest styles across the purse spectrum -- everything from perfect little evening bags to funky oversized totes."
