“We are very encouraged that our specialized exploration expertise continues to yield promising targets, such as the Kikturiaq occurrence, which contain commercial-sized sapphires exhibiting mineralogical characteristics similar to the high quality, colourless and blue gem sapphires previously recovered from the Beluga occurrence”, said Greg Davison, True North Gems' Vice President Exploration.
Four additional new sapphire occurrences were identified on the property, including the Imakkuutuq occurrence, which contained six sapphire showings, located 500 metres southeast of the Kikturiaq. Grab samples were collected for mineralogical analysis with bulk sampling planned for the 2008 program.
The 2007 exploration program comprised detailed geological mapping and ultraviolet light prospecting of the Beluga property followed up by mini bulk sampling of the most prospective, new sapphire showings.
The known sapphire occurrences, including colourless, blue, pink and yellow sapphire, are associated with marbles containing calc-silicate lenses displaying locally pervasive, late metamorphic and hydrothermal replacement.
A total of six mini-bulk samples from the Beluga project were shipped by sea container from Kimmirut in September and were delivered to SGS Minerals Services in Lakefield, Ontario on November 15 for processing by stage crushing and screening, dense media, and magnetic separation. Processing is currently scheduled for January 2008 and results will be provided when available.
The planning and execution of the sapphire exploration and quality control programs at the Beluga Project are under the supervision of Greg Davison, True North Gems' VP Exploration. Mr. Davison is a Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101.
