However, the winter wardrobe is not just about the cold outdoors. Indoors there is always a feeling of warmth and good cheer. Remember the attraction of a coal fire and the old-fashioned harmonies in the colours of grandparents' home. The palette is Up-Dated Vintage. It is a reinterpretation of the vintage look in modern terms with neutral greys living alongside gentle old-fashioned pinks and suffuse yellow light. Shapes are derived from the second-hand, used look while accessories are warm and confidential. It is a life of retro-charm.
Go back even further in time for the next group, History Surfing. No longer does minimalism play a part, this is the rich opulence of noble armour and knightly deeds. Burnished foil covers eroded patina in a range of copper and bronze underlined by pastel greys. Shapes go architectural and sculptural. Decoration includes metallic plates and studs. History is the foundation, yet the dramatic and modern is the rich and forceful result.
If history provides a dramatic and glamorous fashion, so too does the modernism of the Athletic Show-off. But the look is totally different. It is based on glamorous functional shapes supporting visually rich surfaces in crispy metallics and out-of-focus holographics carrying contrasts of blues, greens, brown and terracottas in light and dark shades.
