Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) presented three new technologies for the active outdoor consumer last month at the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow, in Salt Lake City, USA.

Outdoor Retailer is one of the world's largest active and outdoor tradeshows attended by 6,500 people, including retailers, designers, manufacturers and the media.

“Outdoor Retailer provides AWI with an opportunity to introduce our new technologies and innovative range of Australian Merino products to the outdoor enthusiast,” said AWI Product Development Manager Sports and Active Wear, Mark Brooks.

“Our goal is to bring the beneficial qualities of Australian Merino to the forefront of the outdoor apparel sector and demonstrate Merino's transition from traditional use to a modern, intricate, highly adaptable fibre.”

Merino Active Classic, Merino Active Ultimate and Merino Active Performance are new collections enhanced with the latest groundbreaking technology. Created in collaboration with international manufacturers, the Merino Active products are naturally durable, breathable, absorb moisture and stretch for the best performance possible.

Since the early 1900s, Australian Merino wool has been sourced for active wear. Utilising the Printed merino and Easy Care woven technology, the Merino Active Classic carries on the fine tradition with fashionable apparel promoting thermal regulation, moisture absorption and superior protection.

Merino Active Performance products conveniently take only a few hours to dry, are lightweight, and most importantly carry the soft and comfortable feel of fine Merino wool. The high tenacity and 'open structure' of the Merino Nu-Yarn technology employed in the Performance attire make it ideal for everything from socks to outer garments.

For the very active wearer, you cannot go past Merino Active Ultimate. This range takes hold of three particular technologies which, along with the usual qualities of Merino wool, offer better protection overall.

These technologies are the WWB Technology (waterproof, windproof and breathable), protecting against all weather extremes; Merino Seamless, creating better fit and comfort, and; Merino Element, harnessing effective water repellence.
