Traditional garments spell their magic

Africa is known for its colourful and rich customs and traditions. The extensive use of bright colours makes their customary attires appealing enough for tourists to carry them as souvenirs. Kikois and kangas are among such garments which have gained extensive popularity.
Kikoi and kanga were traditionally worn as wrap arounds by men and women. However, it can be used in different manners now, some people flaunt it as a beach wear while others prefer turban form of it. The ones who love to experiment, put them up on walls or make cushion covers out of it.
Kanga, is made out of 100 percent cotton and has beautiful and bold designs printed on it. At times designers print messages to raise social awareness.
Kikoi on other hand is woven using threads of various colours giving it a sophisticated yet trendy touch.
The demand of Kikoi and kanga has increased as many Africans living in different countries want artifacts or apparels of their native place, to keep them rooted to their culture.
Looking into the rising demand, designers have shifted their focus to these garments to make them more innovative by adding functionality to it.
