Perry Ellis International Inc announced that the company has been added to the Standard & Poors (S&P) SmallCap 600 after the close of trading.

"Perry Ellis International's outstanding performance and strong financial position made possible our inclusion in this prestigious index. We want to thank S&P's Index Committee for our selection," commented George Feldenkreis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Introduced in 1994, the S&P SmallCap 600 index is designed to be an "efficient portfolio of companies that meet specific inclusion criteria to ensure that they are investable and financially viable," according to Standard and Poors.

The criteria that S&P has outlined for addition into this index include: (1) market capitalization between $300 million and $2.0 billion; (2) financial viability, represented as four consecutive quarters of positive as-reported earnings; (3) public float of at least 50%; and (4) the company's sector representation.

"We are proud of achieving yet another milestone in Perry Ellis International's history and we continue to be optimistic about our ability to deliver value to our shareholders," Mr. Feldenkreis concluded.
