Shyamal & Bhumika celebrated love with pink palette

Inspired by the Indian costumes from the 17th century, the designing duo of Shyamal and Bhumika was inspired by the colour pink which signifies winter love for their Autumn/Winter 2008 line at Lakme Fashion Week.

It was a luxuriously opulent collection featuring velvets, crepe, silk, georgette, brocade, khadi, silk Lurex and organic denim.

The colour story remained true to pink in all its myriad versions like Rani, magenta, rust, purple, mauve with touches of blue, black, olive, firoze, green and mustard.

Known for their heavily embellished creations, the duo worked chikankari in contrast threads, added rare marodi and aari work on many garments and used detailing like bead, tassels, piping, patchwork, for both men's and women's wear.

Men's wear had a line of silk shirts with fuchsia chevron piping, velvet waistcoats with touches of pink, smocking on hem and cuffs for mauve shirts teamed with black bundis and even brocade lapels for formal waistcoats worn with jeans edged with pink stitching.

Women's wear was a mix of long and short kurtas teamed with either churidars or leggings; dresses with pleated yokes, multi patterned and panelled outfits and kalidar angarkhas.

Some of the striking pieces were the all gold trapeze empire tunic with sheer sleeves, the 'Babli' kurtas with vibrant collars and velvet tunics with mirror work.

An interesting touch were the churidars with brocade cuffs and the dazzling silverZardosi borders that edged the velvet tunics and kurtas.

The show stopper was top model and actor Bikram Saluja in a heavily embroidered velvet sherwani.

For Shyamal and Bhumika colour has always played an important role and this time pink in all its shades has turned their collection into an unconventional offering for the coming season.
