Current trends in the watch industry are multifunctional watches with elements such as voice recognition, electronic compass, calendar or global positioning system (GPS), as well as chronographs and large-format sports watches. Eye-catching forms and creative designs target the fashion-conscious woman.

Besides the still popular white gold, the interest for jewellery made of yellow gold with coloured gems is on the increase. Another trend: The invisible mount for precious stones makes pieces of jewellery even brighter and underlines the top quality of the gems.

There is a rising demand for motif jewellery, e.g. in the form of flowers or animals. With the growing interest of fashion awareness among young men, jewellery for this target group is also becoming increasingly more interesting.

There are two other important fairs for the Hong Kong producers. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show in March 2008 started with 2,306 exhibitors and 31,333 trade visitors (3,460 from Europe) successfully into the year.

From September 3 – 7, 2008, the representatives from the watch and clock industry will meet at the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair. 2007 800 exhibitors and 16,385 buyers (1,158 from Europe) visited the fair, more than ever before.
