It was glamour personified when Sanjay Malhotra presented his collection titled A Night At the Moulin Rouge for Autumn/ Winter 2008 at Lakme Fashion Week.
There was opulence, glitter and beauty as rich fabrics like silk and chiffon were dipped into vibrant colours like wine, orange and emerald green with a few deep peach tones on a white or black ground.
Texturing was done with pure zari for seams, floral embroidery and the bejeweled lace which sparkled with beautiful sequin work.
The opening white sari with tonal embroidery on the pallav splashed with red rose and sequins set the mood of the collection.
Slender textured kurtas with churidars, slim dresses with cutwork and red rose embroidery at the hemline, long white sensuous gowns with pin tuck bodice regal Jodhpur jackets with embellishments, black off shoulder lace gown with drapes, a net mini with embroidered bodice, a peach gown with black appliqué at hem as well as saris with lace appliqués and embellishments were some of the lavish designs.
Men's wear was for formal wear but few, featuring a grey brocade jacket, a 5-button grey silk suit and a raw silk textured jacket and trousers with unusual contrast inset pleats on back and trousers.
The mix of fabrics for the saris and outfits by Sanjay proved that his creativity stayed close to the inspiration. Shimmer, shine, glitz, glitter, glamour was all there in large doses for the creations and the collection will surely appeal to men and women who want to celebrate the festivities of life with avant garde creations.
